The Job of a Career Coach

Every child and adult should always remember that nothing is out of their reach. There was probably a time in your life when anything was possible. You dreamed of being a teacher, a lawyer or an astronaut. Maybe the likelihood of you becoming an astronaut is a bit out of reach but that does not mean that everything is. If your job is weighing you down and you feel like you were meant for a career that is different, employing a career coach may be the best move you can make.

The goal of a career coach is to help you discover what it is that you want. It first begins with analyzing your strengths and weaknesses. You have to take stock of your life and really look closely at areas that you want to improve. It then progresses into what you want out of life and finally how you will begin to achieve those goals. It is not the coach's responsibility to solve your problems for you, only you can do that.

Effective coaching begins with you. What are your hobbies? What do you like most about your current job? What do you like the least? These are important questions to ask yourself. Instead of asking "why" try to ask yourself a "what" question. Why's never answer the underlying questions but a "What" question will allow you to take stock of your life. The coach consultant should be able to help you look at your life with a fresh pair of eyes, and offer a success principle and some important life tips.

Once you have answered the basic questions about your life and your workplace you can begin to look at the areas you are strongest in and focus your energy there. Take for example a job that involves dealing with the public. Are you someone who makes friends easily and people have an easy time talking to you? You may want to consider something in the public eye as your chosen career path.

Whatever your strongest points are the career coach will focus his or her attentions on those aspects. You do not want to dwell on the negative aspects of your life. The goal is to begin again fresh and renewed. Your coach is the one that can help you with that. A career life coach is there to show you new possibilities and career choices that may have eluded you in the past. Just relax, take a deep breath and you can have the job you have always wanted.
