There is nothing new about a legal plan service; in fact they were in Europe back in the thirty's but they have started to become more commonplace in mainstream America. Now most legal firms are able to offer this legal plan service to all sorts of people and businesses and as the interest continue to grow, other types and levels of legal service plans are introduced. The legal plan service works a little like an insurance policy whereby a monthly of yearly fee is paid as a form of membership to a law firm or individual attorney and the member has access to their services.
Although a great idea, they are designed as a preventative measure so representation in court would still be a service that was a chargeable service but hopefully using the legal plan it won't get that far. However, other facilities are included with the plans that are used by individuals and businesses regularly as consultation with your attorney is included. There isn't generally a limit to how many times you can contact your attorney this way so as each consultation is free, this service provides great value for people that would probably have to pay each time they contacted their lawyer or not use on at all.
Other services are also included in legal plans and normally a free ‘Last Will and Testament' will be included, with yearly updates and many plans will also write a letter or a make a call on your behalf. This is a valuable service if you are having a dispute; as an awareness of attorney representation can clear up many issues with a 3rd party. In addition, you will also have coverage for contract or document review, where your attorney will review documents, such as agreements or sales contracts, and answer any of your questions.
You will only have to pay extra but usually discounted, if you require your lawyer to attend court with you or additional legal help not part of the legal plan. As time progresses, new plans become available to suit the growing need especially in specialized areas including business as well as the private individual. Of course many other types of legal plan exist and these may even be advertised in your workplace at a reduced cost or sometimes free; there is even a special plan for truckers.
Some limitations do exist to the cover provided and any lawsuit that is already pre-existing or ongoing will not be covered by the legal services plan as the basis of the service is to try and stop situations escalating to the point where full blown legal representation is necessary. Major legal issues that require any type of ongoing legal representation would not fall within the remit of a legal services plan but you would no doubt come to some arrangement with your attorney over such a matter This is an excellent system by which the average American citizen has access to legal representation in a wide range of issues and one that is set to grow as the number of court cases increases.
